Christmas is over

It was quite a day here. We didn't get all the snow they had in the northern part of the state. We went to Sioux Falls an had thunder, lightning and lots of rain. The wind was crazy during the night so it dried most of the rain.. I gave away my 9 quilts and have a few to give that are here yet. Have been sewing some because its been windy and cold
Hope you all had a great Christmas with your families.

Are you ready for Christmas?

I'm not- but hope to soon get there. I am giving 9 of my quilts away. Still have to put some labels on. Was saving them for wedding presents but don't know when any of my grandkids will ever get married and I need room for more. I have several started and it looks like we may be snowed in again. Blizzard forecast for Christmas day. We have had a few days of 40º weather. CBQ and I are making blocks and will exchange some. The rule is we can't buy any fabric so they are scrappy. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a happy healthy Near Year.Mary

Trunk Show

Good morning, a chilly morning here- we had a few snowflakes already but it melted right away. Hope it keeps melting until after the holidays : ) This is a picture of our guild president and Catherine who is a certified Judy Niemeyer teacher showing us some of the beautiful quilts she made They are all paper pieced and all beautiful. I have done very little paper piecing and think its too late for me but I am determined to try it.
Sorry I haven't been on my blog much but have been busy with yard and garden work all summer. My DH hasn't been well so I do what I can and so does he.. Happy sewing to everyone. Mary

This one has 224 squares and I have a lot left for another quilt. It was quilted by CBQ. Won't get at the other 2 right away as I have some other things to catch up on.. I am making another scrappy quilt with 2 and 4 in. squares. Hope you all are getting lots done.

Good morning, nice morning here and we had rain overnight. Now I won't have to water my garden. Got home Friday from a quilting retreat. We had so much fun and got lots done so we are scheduling another one for next year.
Lots of excitement since I have been home. The spring broke on the the garage and the door fell down- what a bummer. This morning we looked out the window and a tree was on fire. Don't know if it was wiring or lightning but the electric company is trimming trees now. CBQ and DH have been here but we aren't getting much sewing finished. Lots of running around but fun. Have several quilts to bind but won't start on those until they leave. CBQ quilted them for me. More later, Mary

Flowers

Guess it is time for me to write a note. I sure broke my New Years resolution but sometimes life gets in the way. Haven't been doing a lot of sewing- making a block a month for the Quilt Guild and I made something for the challenge at our quilt show  in June. We had our guild meeting yesterday and had a really interesting guest and she had a trunk show. Her name is JoAnn Hoffman and she designs round quilts among other things. I have seen her work and patterns in Keepsake quilting. Hope you all are getting lots finished. The picture is a bouquet of flowers I rec'd for Mothers Day.

A project in our guild last month was to sew something with pink. I made two blocks-will use them in some kids quilts. I am using only scraps and trying to get rid of some. It is amazing to see the quality of fabric between the old and the new, Hope you are all having a good day. We are getting light snow that melts almost as soon as it hits the ground,

Sampler quilt

Good morning, not a good picture but wanted to show .
you I put my sampler together. I made the gingerbread  boy blocks but decided I didn't want them in the quilt so will use them in another project. I won't get it quilted for a while. CBQ is my favorite quilter and she will visit this summer and take it home.
We are having warm windy weather and our snow is almost gone. Hope we don't get more. : )
Well, back to the sewing room. I am making quilt tops for charity this week.

Table Topper

Good afternoon, Just got home from my Guild meeting. We had a farewell for one of our members that is moving to Alaska. Also planning for our Quilt Show which will be in June. Have been working on my sampler trying to get it ready to quilt. Did get a table topper made for a friend. Several quilters had their quilt at the meeting- completed They were very pretty. Guess I am really getting slow. Weather is in the 40's today with wind so our snow is slowly disappearing. Hope you are all having a good sewing day. Mary

More blocks

Sampler blocks
These are the last 4 blocks for my sampler quilt. It has gingerbread boys and a gingerbread house but I am saving them for  another project. I may have to make a couple more blocks but that will be easy.. It was fun taking this class with other quilters.. We have had snow and very cold weather and are enjoying a few warm days before it turns cold by the weekend, It showed 39º in my vehicle when I was out and about  this afternoon.. The weather has been so changeable this winter. Hope you are all having good days and getting lots of sewing finished. Mary

Saturday, January 2, 2016

Good morning, I have been lazy about writing on my blog but 1 of my New Years resolutions is to try to post twice a month. Haven't been doing a lot of sewing but am  working on my sampler blocks and will have some pictures to post later in the week-have also started a scrappy quilt and have been cutting my scraps. I should have been cutting them after each project but it was so easy just to throw them in my scrap basket. I am trying to do a lot of down-sizing. After 60 years of quilting I have lots of scraps
Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and will have a happy and healthy new year.
