Join Kelly's MUF group

I have joined the MUF's. It means 'Masterpieces Under Fermentation'. After 50 years of quilting I have lots of MUF's. I used to call them PIGS which means projects in grocery sacks.. My goal is to get some of the blocks I have into quilt tops in 2011. I also will be doing a few new projects.

Look what I rec'd

Rec'd a box yesterday. It came from Kelly @ Cotton Charm Quilts in St. Joseph, MO and had a pretty card signed- Mrs. Claus. What a beautiful collection of fabric in charm packs and layer cakes. Thank you very much Mrs. Claus. I have been admiring and playing with the fabric ever since it arrived. Click on the picture to enlarge.

inside of purse

This is the inside of the purse and it is reversed with the polka dots on the outside on the second purse.

Last minute gifts

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas- we certainly did and the weather co-operated. Although the pictures aren't very good I will show a purse I made for a gift. I actually made 2 but gave one away. I used pre-quilted fabric so one was the brown floral and the other polka-dots.

Small Wall-Hanging

Just showing you a wall hanging I made. Think I should have given my snowman a hat. Have you purchased any thread lately?????? I stopped at our local fabric warehouse today and it cost me $2.81 with tax. Guess I'll be using my old thread and doing scrappy quilts. They tell me there is a shortage of cotton. Maybe they should not have shipped everything out of the country

Quilt is finished

Finally finished. This is the quilt I had to take off the frame and mark again. Really glad this one is done.

I'm back

but I haven't been anywhere. Just busy. Am almost finished with the binding on my quilt. I do the back by hand so it takes a while-the quilt is 90 x104. Also have my holiday goodies ready to eat. I really miss my sewing machine and will almost be happy when the holidays are over and I can get to sewing.
We don't have much snow- just enough for a white Christmas but the weather has been cold.
Crazy about quilts is hosting a snowman and snowflake swap on HGTV so I entered that. She is swapping 10 1/2 squares so I had to go shopping ; )
Hope to get back to posting some pictures soon. Happy sewing

finished- finally

I finally finished the quilt I was hand-quilting and will give you a peek. It is still on the frame and I will take it off tomorrow and start on the binding. I wanted to show you my clamps but my camera died- anyhow my DH was always borrowing my clamps and when I needed them I couldn't find them or they were dirty. One day I bought new ones and spray painted them bright pink and he hasn't borrowed them since.
Now I have to get busy on some Christmas projects. We had our guild party on Sat. and it was very nice. We collected 40 pillows and lots of pillowcases for the needy,

Going Shopping

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. We did although some of the family stayed home because of the icy roads and all are hoping weather will be nicer at Christmas. We didn't go out shopping so think we will go today. It is sunny and 45 degrees with snow predited for tonight and tomorrow. I took a picture of my Christmas Cactus but decided to put it in my header- I should have made it smaller but didn't. Am still working on pillowcases for the needy and will stop today and do some other sewing for Christmas. Happy sewing. BB

Happy Thanksgiving

Good morning- it feels more like Christmas here. Temp. was only 5 degrees but is up to 20 with lots of sunshine and NO wind (yet). We just have a dusting of snow but some predicted for tomorrow. Will be going to our son's home for Thanksgiving so hope we don't get much snow. Last night our city had its parade of lights but I didn't go- temp was 15.
I won't get my quilt finished by Thursday as I hoped but am going to be close. Been making some pillowcases. Our quilt guild is giving pillows and pillowcases to the needy. I used the "sausage method" for the pillowcases and it was fun. You can find it on you-tube. It is a good way to use up some of my stash.
Have a good Thanksgiving.

Just visiting

Have been missing but I have been busy working on my handquilting. My plan is to finish the quilt by Thanksgiving but I will have to stay home a bit more. I have a stack of things in my sewing room -waiting. Also decided to cut some of my scraps- don't know what I will make but I have lots after 50 years of quilting.
We haven't had any snow yet so feel very fortunate. The weather has been pretty nice-even broke some records. We have all our outside work finished and put up a few Christmas lights on the house. Some in the neighborhood have theirs on already.
Hope you are all getting your Christmas sewing finished. I haven't started a thing.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Table Runner

Since the giveaway is over maybe I can get some sewing finished. Spent waaay to much time on the computer ( and so far haven't won a thing) I did finish up my table runner but am a little disappointed with it. I used pellon instead of batting and don't like it as well. Hope you all have a good sewing week.

Fall coasters

We had our quilt guild meeting on Sat. and I gave the lesson on Tube Quilting. Not many had heard of it so we should see lots of blocks for show and tell. Last month the lesson was on the envelope purse and several of the members are making them for Christmas gifts. We had many beautiful quilts and table runners for show and tell. We have a really talented group and I get lots of ideas.
I made some fall coasters from the blog- abrandiecreation.com They are easy and fun to make.
Hope you all are having busy sewing days.

What I've been working on!!

This is the quilt I have been hand-quilting. It is not moving very fast but when the weather is nice I like to be out in the yard. I also have several other projects that I am working on. This week-end I am going to play with my EQ7 and figure out the border for the Jewel Box. When I am blog hopping I see so many neat ideas I want to try- also want to do some Christmas sewing. Hope you all are having a good sewing day.

Worlds Only Corn Palace.

Today I am showing you a tourist attraction in our city. It is all decorated with corn and grains. There are also murals inside the building. The outside is decorated each year with different themes. Yesterday they hosted a senior citizen day and served over 500 dinners. Also had music for people to dance- mostly polkas and waltzs. Today the polka fest begins. It will go until Sunday with several different bands playing. They also have other activities in this building- Kenny Rogers recently had a show here and soon basketball games will start.

Ruler

This is the ruler I used to cut the second block

Playing with Tube quilting

I made a couple blocks from scraps- the first one I did the way they tell us here-( google- you tube +tube quilting). It is a tute by Missouri Star Quilt company and she uses the 45 degree line on a regular ruler.I used 2 -2 1/2 inch strips and 1- 4 1/2 inch strip- all are wof. The second one is cut into 6- 2 1/2 in strips and my friend showed up with a special ruler so I used it on the bigger block. Both rulers worked good. The blocks are not squared up but you get an idea of what I did. Hope this helps if you want to try it.

Tube Quilting??.

It is sooo nice here that I just sat outdoors and enjoyed it. I have to give a lesson at our next guild meeting and am looking for something simple. ( a teacher I am NOT) I found tube quilting and made a couple blocks and I think that will be it. Wish me luck. Also I am still hand quilting my quilt. I promised a picture but that will be later. Happy sewing.

Izzy's ( Bridget's) Garden

I came across this wall hanging while looking for my fall decorations. It is a HGTV BOM from several years ago.
Hope you all had a good Labor Day. We had a dreary rainy day but had a college age GS visiting so it was a good one. Today I hope to get some sewing done.

ABC quilt

Good morning, 50º degrees here and it feels like fall (my favorite time of the year). I was looking through my supply of quilts and wallhangings so I could change what I have on my quilt hangers. Thought I would show you a small quilt that I exchanged the squares on a HGTV swap a few years ago. We each picked a letter in the alphabet and exchanged squares. Haven't been getting alot done but am hand quilting. Will show that one in a few days. Have a safe Labor Day weekend.

Any suggestions??

Have my jewel box sewed together (not pressed) and need help. I was planning an applique border but I think it will be too busy so am trying to figure out something different. It measure 72 by 84 now and I would like it to be about 88 or 90 wide when its finished.

A dreary morning here- I think it will rain- had storms last night but we didn't have damage so were lucky -1.75 in. of rain. My garden is still producing so am sharing it.

Have a happy sewing day.

1 down-11 to go

This is 1 of 12 quilt blocks my DD gave me for my birthday. I think it will take until my next birthday to finish them but if the MN. Twins are playing good I can get lots finished : )

This morning I made zucchini bread to freeze and also froze some tomatoes. I thought I was about done with them but was watering them and left the water on all night so they are greening up again : )

I also have the rows sewed for my Jewel Box quilt and now have to sew them together.

Hope you are all getting lots finished.

Not lazy-just busy

Its almost a week since I've written. Had a very nice time at the lake but the weather turned cold so we played games-ladderball and cards and ate lots. Had a bunch of tomatoes to can when we got home and guess what? There are lots more here. My SIL gave us a box of nice pears from their tree but think we will eat most of those. I will freeze some tomatoes to use in soup and chili. I did manage a few stitches of handquilting on my quilt and at the senior center. I hope you all got lots sewing and quilting finished- I enjoy looking at blogs and will have to live until I am 200 to do all the things I save. Happy weekend. BB

Friday, August 13, 2010

I'm back!!

But really haven't been any place. Just busy with my garden. Lots of tomatoes- I canned and froze them AND gave them away. Also lots of cukes. My family loves refrigerator pickles so made some of those. Not much time for quilting but I did get a little handquilting done. Think I am having sewing machine withdrawal pains ; ) so hope to get in my sewing room next week. We are planning on spending the weekend relaxing at our son's house on the lake. Hope you all are getting lots done. Have a good weekend.

Congratulations to QuiltDoodles who is the winner of my giveaway. If you will send me your address I will get the FQs in the mail. Thanks to everyone who entered-I wish I could give you each a prize.

More Quilts

Have a few more quilts to show you. It is such a beautiful morning here that I am going to be lazy and sit out with my coffee and enjoy. Just mixed some dough for some caramel rolls and then when it gets too warm am going to hand-quilt on my quilt. We have been having lots of storms in our area. A few miles west of here they had a hail stone that measured 18.5 inches around. It is thought to be a record. If you click on these pictures they will enlarge and you see the detail. The blue candlewicking quilt was a raffle quilt.

Charming girls quilt club.

I joined the Charming Girls Quilt club- hope I can keep up. The summer is such a busy time. Yesterday I made refrigerator pickles from my garden. Next week our Quilt Guild is having our quilt show so am trying to get my quilts labeled and ready to go. We have about 40 members and each person can show 3 large and 3 small quilts.
My goal for the next 2 months will be to finish a jewel box quilt and put an appliqued border on it.

Sewing Room

Cleaning mine and what a chore. I am finding things I'd forgotten about and a few I wanted to forget. Was really surprised how many quilt blocks I have that I exchanged in swaps and also BOM's. In between cleaning I am remarking a quilt. I had it marked and on the frame and went to the basement a few days later and ALL my marks were gone. I basted it - took it off the frame and put it away. Now I am remarking and will put it back up. I am doing a lot of groaning. Don't know why that happened as I used a water soluble marker. My basement is dry and I always have a dehumidifer running. Hope you all are having a good day.

CBQ- No table topper

Hey CBQ- guess I'll have to make one- but do have another wallhanging. Will this do????

Happy 4th

Just wanted to wish you all a good week-end celebrating the 4th. Hope you take time to remember our military who are away from home protecting us and the millions of Americans who have given their lives so we could have all the freedoms we enjoy.
Didn't get much sewing done this week but have been busy. Happy 4th .

Patriotic Wall Hanging

Good morning, a beautiful morning in South Dakota. Had my morning coffee out on the patio. I finally finished up a round robin that our Red Hat group made. We are all quilters.

Yesterday Our Extension Club had lunch at a B&B that is in an old rock quarry. It was beautiful out there- then we toured a bio-diesel plant which was very interesting since most of us have had some farm connection in our life. Today 10 friends are going out to lunch and my SIL called to have coffee later. My day is filled- no quilting. Hope you all have a good quilting and sew a little stitch for me.

Rainy Day

Good morning, We are getting lots of rain- about 6 inches in the last few days. Guess I shouldn't complain after the tragedy in Arkansas. I have been looking at pictures from our area where it washed culverts right out of roads. We have lived here for 16 years and this is the first time our drain pump has run. Most homes have basements.
My DD is still in the running for the accuquilt on http://www.bejeweledquilts.blogspot.com/ Sometimes she is ahead and then behind so I am hoping that anyone who reads this will go vote- you can vote everyday and there are 21 hours left to vote. She will have to bring it to my house and cut for me if she wins. Thanks for voting. My DD is call me crazy- please help.

There were 12 who participated and we each got 12 blocks- the 13th one will be made into a quilt and donated to a charity for a raffle. We all used the same focus fabric- we each bought one yard. I am anxious to get started on mine but have a few things to finish up first. Our guild is having our bi-annual quilt show July 24-25.

Memorial Day

Hope you had a nice Memorial Day and had time to stop and say a prayer for all our military- past, present and future. We are so fortunate to live in a country where we enjoy so many freedoms.

I washed one of my first quilts today and planned on taking a picture while it was on the clothesline. I draped it across 3 lines but we had a rain shower so I didn't get the best picture but will show it anyhow. I had to quickly get it in before it got wet again.

Pretty Quilt

Today I was quilting at our local senior center. We have a few that hand-quilt and the money helps support the center. This just happens to be my DD's quilt. ( Call me crazy) We usually have a quilt or 2 waiting. One of the ladies quilting today is 94 years old and does a really good job.

Vintage sheets

Lucky me- had a few minutes to check out our thrift store yesterday and this is what I found. Two sheets for $3.00. The store is operated by the local senior center so I'm guessing most of the sheets are older. One of these days I will have to start sewing them. Have lots of them cut into 6 1/2 inch squares.

Also the weather is beautiful here- will be in the high 70's today. Everything in my garden is growing nicely. Hope you all are having a good day.

Jelly Roll Sampler Block

Hey, I am catching up and just in time. The sun is shining- its not raining and supposed to be 70º today. I will soon be in my garden working. I did finish my Jelly Roll Sampler block. Now I have to do an 8x11 paper pieced block for a challenge. I do not- repeat -do not like paper piecing but I will do it if I get last place. I just put a rhubarb dessert in the oven. It has a cup of heavy whipping cream in it- ummm. My friend puts 2 cups in but that is a little too much for me. We are having friends in for a card game tonight. Have a good day!!

Jelly Roll Block

Just finished my block and the new one is out already. Seems like I am alway behind. ; )

Raining here and it is snowing in the western part of South Dakota. Hope it doesn't come here- I have some of my garden planted and growing. Well better get busy on my next block.

Happy Mothers Day

Hope all you Mothers and Grandmothers had a good family day. I sure did. My 2 boys brought dinner to our house and served it. The grandkids loaded the dishwasher while the rest washed and dried the other things. It was a real treat. The sun even managed to come out this afternoon.
I had planned on doing some sewing but didn't. I am making some tea bag wallets to put in goodie bags for a state meeting. Hope to finish them tomorrow and will share a picture. Enjoy whats left of the day.

My work is waiting.

I cut the denim and flannel for another raggy quilt. I always sew these quilts on a treadle machine so the pieces are waiting for me. Love this machine- my DH bought it at an auction for $5.00. He was going to put a motor on it but I like treadling. The cord on the floor is for my light.

Just checking in

I don't have any sewing to show but am just checking in. We have been gardening and mowing- everything is so lush here.
Yesterday my daughter- in -law came and we painted the living room which was quite a job.
I am so appreciative. It looks so nice and I love it. My next project will have to be to straighten up my sewing room or I won't be able to get to my machine. I know it won't be long until it will be messy again but how can you sew in a neat room??
Hope you are all having a good day and getting lots done. BB

My Prize

Rec'd a fat quarter of very pretty fabric that I won from Pat's blog"Quilting Can Be Fun" I am sure I will find a good project for it. Thank you very much. Pat has some great tutorials when you visit her blog.
